End of Life

Rework svg

End-of-life is a last resort. Let’s first discuss end-of-use.

In the UK it is estimated that waste from furniture equates to 670,000 tonnes per year. We believe that much of this furniture reached the end of its life too early.

End-of-use is what happens when people decide they no longer need furniture. Their ‘use’ for the products has ended. Normally this results in disposal and  waste creation. At re:work, end-of-use is just another stage in a product’s lifecycle. We take furniture that is pre-owned, pre-market, returned, ex-hire and subscription, and extend its life through reconditioning, finding it a new home, or returning it restored to the original owner. Just because fashions or needs change, realising the value in existing furniture is key to reducing waste and carbon emissions.

We recondition and reuse pre-owned furniture

Whether it’s through rehoming, remanufacturing, refurbishing or donating to a charitable cause, we aim to extend the life of furniture as far as possible. Although there does come a time when a piece furniture is beyond reuse, and we call this end-of-life. However, the story does not end there. Through our recycling centre, Sustain, products are broken down, separated, and recycled, returning valuable materials back into the circular economy and diverting furniture away from landfill.

A little about our Wishlist Scheme...

The Sustain Wishlist Scheme donates pre-loved furniture with lots of life left in it to charitable organisations and worthy causes across the UK.

Donating almost 4,000 pieces of furniture last year not only helps the community, but it also means that 88,743 kg of furniture has been diverted from landfill, saving over 152,000kg/CO2e.

We can help you with your ESG goals

For every furniture recycling project we handle, we will provide you with a certificate of the total number of items recycled, the total weight, what was donated through the Wishlist Scheme, and your carbon emission savings.
