Reducing our impacts

Minimising environmental impacts

The climate and biodiversity crises are urgent issues we must tackle head on, together.

We take our responsibility seriously, understanding our actions now will define the future of generations to come.

From the biomass boiler that heats our head office, to the solar panels that span our roofs, and our bee yards, we continually look for new environmental initiatives to embrace.

Our pledge to Net Zero

We have over 40 ESG objectives, and our Pledge to Net Zero is just one. The Senator Group UK Manufacturing and Logistics commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030 and by 100% by 2040, from a 2019 baseline. We also commit to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions to net zero by 2050.

We now procure zero carbon, 100% renewable electricity for all our UK sites, including our offices, manufacturing warehouses and showrooms, meeting the SBTi target of 100% renewable electricity by 2030, 6 years early.

Waste management

Waste minimisation and effective management is a key objective of our ESG strategy and the way we operate. Following the waste hierarchy, ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ is a clear consumption mantra for the group. The emphasis is placed on reduction, be that energy, packaging and materials.

Through Sustain we offer our ‘White Bag Scheme;’ a service designed to help our clients reduce their waste disposal costs, guarantee their packaging is recycled responsibly, and ensure compliance with waste legislation.

Each bag holds one cubic metre of waste, meaning significant savings compared to traditional skip hire. Clients simply segregate their packaging, and we take care of the rest. When collecting packaging, we backhaul our trucks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with the transport.

Enhancing and protecting biodiversity

We have honeybee hives at sites in Lancashire and Ohio and we have trained 20 of our employees to be beekeepers. We use the honey in our own onsite restaurants and sell some to raise funds for local charities.

Together with our employees and local schools, we planted 25,000 trees in 34 acres of woodland in the Ribble Valley. Phase two of the project is underway, and we will see another 5,000 trees planted in Lancashire. Our Indian colleagues have joined us in our tree planting initiative, adding Mango and Pomegranate trees close to our offices in Bangalore.
