Who we are
Let’s begin with who made us...
In 1976 our Chairman Colin Mustoe began designing and manufacturing office furniture. In the early days, he would even build and deliver the products to customers himself.
All these years on and we’ve grown into one of the largest office furniture manufacturers in the world, employing over 1400 people globally. All the things that were important to us in the beginning; our attention to detail, integrity, investment in people and passion for design, are still very much running through the veins of our business today.
The Mustoe family have owned this business for five decades and plan to own it for a fair few more. As a family business, we don’t have to answer to shareholders or investors. The Mustoe family have an inherent intuition for what makes good business sense, and it’s that intuition that has steered us successfully through some challenging times. And despite our size, we have retained the feel of a small family business. Colin, Robert, Julia and Janice are very much present to this day.
Lancashire is famous for many things...
Lancashire Cheese, Wallace and Gromit and the Ribble Valley. It’s also the place we chose to call home. We’re very proud of our North of England roots. There’s a spirit about the people up here that fits us perfectly. It’s a place of authenticity, resolve, togetherness, human warmth, skill and hard work. From our Lancashire HQ, we trade with the rest of the world.
We started life as an independent disrupter, and we remain one to this day
Being disruptive is about changing the game. In our case, it’s always been about being brave, about aiming to do things better than anyone else, or even ourselves.
We began with a firm belief that we can do things better by doing things our way. Driven by one man’s curiosity to see if there was a better way to bring quality, value for money furniture to workplaces. The design styles and manufacturing techniques have changed, but our curiosity has remained.
